To Be Your Friend
I like to be the kind of friend that you have been to me
I like to be the help that you’ve been always glad to be
I like to do the big things and the splendid things for you
To brush the gray from out your skies, and leave them only blue
I like to say the kindly things that I so often heard
And feel that I can rouse your soul the way that mine you served
I like to give you back the joy that you have given me
And those that are wishing you and me I hope would never be
I’d like to make you feel as rich as I who travels
Undaunted in my darkest hours with you to lean upon
And could I have on wish to share this only would it be
That I’d like to be the kind of friend that you have been to me
